KUANTAN: Residents of Tanjung Lumpur here, can now look forward to smoother traffic flow once the construction of the second bridge, linking Bandar Putra in Tanjung Lumpur and Kuantan city centre, is completed. Works Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof said the construction of the dual carriageway bridge is expected to significantly reduce traffic congestion at the existing bridge. "Upon completion of the 451m bridge, crossing Sungai Kuantan by Aug 2019, it will give an alternative route to motorists heading to Kuantan and Indera Mahkota from Tanjung Lumpur. "This project is a priority for us as the existing bridge is unable to cope with the heavy flow of vehicles daily,” he said in his speech. The new bridge which cost RM181.24 million, will start at the intersection of Jalan Pintas Bukit Setongkol and Jalan Tanah Putih, passing Jalan Seri Kemuting 2 in Kuantan and end at Jalan Tanjung Lumpur. For the second bridge, Ahmad Zaki Resources Berhad (AZRB) has been selected as the contractor for the project. Meanwhile, Tengku Mahkota of Pahang Tengku Abdullah Sultan Ahmad Shah, in his speech before the groundbreaking ceremony, said the second bridge will spur Tanjung Lumpur's economic development. "This bridge will help to create economic opportunities and boosting housing industry in Tanjung Lumpur besides reduce traffic congestion," he said.
